Course Description

ArtsAlive! Second Grade is geared to ages 6–7 and aligns with National Core Art Standards for second grade. Students explore concepts and gain skills in four domains of the arts. While most lessons remain video-based, some introduce material through visually rich lessons with text and captions written at a second-grade level.

Music

Continues to expand a student’s knowledge of and appreciation for music with lessons on form, music notation, and basic composition. Students explore music history and learn about vocal music, instrumental music, and music from around the world, all while having opportunities to practice and perform.

Theater

Helps young learners explore how to use their bodies and voices to express ideas and show emotions. Students will gain body awareness by learning about stage directions and will come to understand different jobs in the theater world. They will also be supported—through stories, games, and written activities—to create their own simple play.

Creative Movement

Expands on the skills addressed in earlier levels, with lessons designed to increase sensory awareness, strengthen fine and gross motor skills, encourage healthy play, and develop language and social skills.

Visual Arts

Builds on the students understanding of the elements of arts with lessons on topics like landscapes, perspective, and silhouettes. They’ll learn to appreciate the works of well-known artists and have fun opportunities to paint, draw, color, and build over a dozen hands-on activities and projects.
