Course Description
ArtsAlive! Third Grade is geared to ages 7–8 and aligns with National Core Arts Standards and select Common Core English Language Arts Standards for third grade. Designed around the theme of You Can Do Hard Things, students explore more challenging concepts, learn about the rewards of discipline and effort, and try their hand at creative games, activities, and projects. The engaging lessons contain images and videos, along with text and captions written at a third-grade level.
Visual Arts
Challenges students with more advanced concepts about the elements of art, including controlling color value, real and implied texture, and three-dimensional art. Students are guided through activities and projects to build their skills and coordination, develop focus and patience, and encourage problem solving and creative thinking.
Performing Arts
Combines material from previous theater and creative movement units to teach students how different kinds of performers tell stories to an audience. Students participate in fun lessons and activities on comedy, improvisation, and puppetry; see what’s involved in the creative process of performing; and build skills that foster empathy and encourage self-expression.
Music
Continues to build a student’s music vocabulary, their ability to read music, and their understanding of tempo, dynamics, beat, and rhythm. Students participate in rhythm and singing exercises, and the skills they learn culminate in a project to create their own chant in a form called rondo.
Creative Writing
Encourages students to celebrate language and writing with this new unit at Third Grade. Students begin with lessons on figurative language, are introduced to the fascinating study of root words, try their hand at writing some poetry, and learn about the elements of story structure.
